As a girl who loves a Hollywood set of blinding gnashers, I'm all for teeth whitening.
But now, I'd never get it done anywhere other than at my dentist - I've now had my teeth whitened twice (over the course of about 6 years) by the dentist, using the trays you use at home with great results. I have to say it's far superior to the times when, younger and stupider, I used those kits you can buy in Superdrug/Boots/etc. THEY JUST DON'T WORK. Plus, your dentist knows teeth...s/he's a tooth specialist....s/he went to university and studied teeth...s/he looks at teeth all day - ok, so you get my point.
Even though it's more expensive to get them done at the dentist, for my own peace of mind I'd rather get it done there than have a bit of tooth fall off/experience extreme sensitivity/have a strange reaction and my teeth go grey (can happen apparently)/pay money for it not to work/damage my teeth in anyway.
Crest Whitestrips were okay whitening-wise, but made my teeth so sensitive it was vile so I actually only got partway through the box. The sensitivity weigh outweighed the whiteness of teeth.
So, in conclusion, I would recommend anyone thinking of getting their teeth whitened to visit their dentist first. Lecture over, you can all leave now.
Yeah I found the Whitestrips quite effective but the sensitivity thing is an issue and also the mouth foaming! i understand they've come out with a new formula that is a bit better though

Well, good for you. I understand why you'd prefer to let a professional handle things. It is, after all, our teeth we are dealing with here. They can be quite tough, but in their own way, they can also be pretty delicate.
